What is Dye Sublimation Printing
Dye sublimation printing is a professional digital heat transfer printing technology that creates high-definition, long-lasting full-color prints through a unique physical sublimation reaction. Different from traditional screen printing and ordinary inkjet printing that only attach ink to the material surface, this technology enables dyes to fuse with the substrate at the molecular level, delivering ultra-stable and flawless printing effects.
Core Working Principle
The core of dye sublimation lies in the solid-to-gas phase transition without going through the liquid state. Special sublimation dyes remain solid at room temperature. When heated to a specific temperature (160–200°C) under constant pressure, the solid dye quickly sublimes into gaseous molecules. These tiny gas dye molecules penetrate the open pores of polyester fibers or polymer-coated material surfaces, and instantly solidify and bond firmly with the substrate fibers as the temperature cools down. This molecular fusion makes the pattern become an integral part of the material rather than a superficial attachment.
Standard Printing Process
2. Heat Transfer: Align the printed transfer paper with the target substrate, and apply constant heat and pressure via a heat press machine or industrial thermal transfer equipment.
3. Sublimation & Fusion: Under high temperature and pressure, the ink sublimes into gas and penetrates the material interior to complete color transfer.
4. Final Forming: After cooling and peeling off the transfer paper, a vivid, seamless, and scratch-resistant pattern is formed on the substrate surface.

Limitations of the Technology
The application of dye sublimation printing has certain material restrictions. It only works on polyester fabrics or surfaces coated with a special polymer sublimation layer (such as ceramic, metal, glass, acrylic). In addition, there is no white sublimation ink, so it is not applicable to dark pure cotton fabrics, and the printing effect is best on white or light-colored polyester materials.
